Dear Lyle School District Families,
Our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences to the Silver Rail Elementary School community following the tragic shooting on October 15, 2026, in Bend, Oregon. We cannot begin to imagine the grief experienced by the families, students, staff, and community members who have been affected by this heartbreaking event. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted during this incredibly difficult time.
In light of this tragedy, on Friday, October 16, Lyle School District staff spent time reviewing our safety policies and procedures and debriefing with key staff members. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, families, and visitors remain our highest priority. We are committed to continually reviewing our practices and ensuring that we are doing everything we can to maintain a safe learning environment.
As part of our ongoing safety procedures, all visitors must be prepared to present valid identification and clearly state the reason for their visit before entry will be granted. We understand that these procedures may require an extra step, but they are essential to protecting everyone in our buildings. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work together to keep our schools safe.
We also recognize the importance of working together as a school community to identify and address safety concerns. We encourage families to talk regularly with their students about the importance of speaking up if they see or hear something concerning, including troubling behavior, text messages, or social media posts. Students can report concerns to a school administrator, counselor, or another trusted adult. Concerns may also be reported through the anonymous Washington Safe Schools Tip Line, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.Washington Safe Schools Tip Line — Reporting OptionsPlease know that we take the safety of our school community seriously and will continue to review our procedures and preparedness.
