Meet the Board

I was born and raised in the great community of Dallesport. My roots run deep within Klickitat County. My grandma (Nada McMurrin) homesteaded on The Dalles Mountain Rd as a child. She would later become one of Lyle's great teachers (2nd grade).  

Both of my parents attended Lyle School District, and all of my siblings. I am an avid lover of my family, sports, and animals. I have a wonderful husband (Gabe Moore - also attended Lyle) and two amazing kids (Ayebree and Kade - 3rd and 1st grade at Lyle). Together, we love anything sport related, reading books, hiking, board games, camping, and traveling.

I am looking forward to serving the Lyle School District in Board Position #1, GO COUGS!

After starting her career as an elementary teacher, Dr. Varkados served as a principal for schools in the Kalama and Bethel School Districts. She was later hired as Bethel’s Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction and, later, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.  She has also worked for the state superintendent's office as a school improvement effort specialist.

Dr. Varkados joined Lyle School District in July of 2018 as the Interim Superintendent and was appointed Superintendent in December of that year.

A resident of Vancouver, Washington, Dr. Varkados also currently serves as Centerville's superintendent two days a month. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Washington State University and two education degrees from the University of Portland.
