The State Board of Health (SBOH) has approved changes to Chapter 246-105 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) concerning school and child care immunization policy.

These rules became effective for public and private schools and licensed child care centers in Washington State in August, 2020.  Note that these changes were proposed and passed prior to the COVID pandemic, and in response to several measles outbreaks. At this time, there is no requirement for children to have the COVID immunization in order to attend school.

A major focus of the changes was to ensure that schools and child care facilities have medically verified immunization records. Exemptions have been tightened up as well and there are other small changes to the rule.
