Lyle School District's Bilingual or English Language Development Program, like those across Washington State, follows guidance by state and federal statutes. An ELL-certificated teacher oversees language development services for our ELD students, assisted by a para-educator who has extensive experience in ELD instruction.

Classroom teachers - who have received specific training in enhancing instruction - provide both English language development and academic grade-level content instruction in the regular classroom. Paraeducators also provide targeted support to our ELD students in the classroom.

By providing vocabulary-rich environments within the general classroom, we support students in developing language skills, especially science, math and ELA vocabulary. Students who need more individualized instruction meet with a para-educator for language development and vocabulary instruction in a small group settings for 30 minutes daily.
