Public Information Requests

The Lyle School District follows the Public Records Act regarding disclosure of its public records. Under state law, a public records request must include a reasonable description that would allow a school district employee to locate the records.

Request Form

A digital copy of the request form can be downloaded here.

A hard copy can be requested by calling (509) 365-2191 or emailing public.records@lyleschools.org. Please include a mailing address if you would like it mailed.

You may also send in your own written request. Make sure to include your contact information (email addresses are helpful) and detailed information of the records you want.

Use one of the following methods to submit your completed request form:

  • Mail it to: Public Information Request, Lyle School District, PO Box 368, Lyle, WA 98635
  • In person: Lyle School District Office, 625 Keasey Ave., Lyle, WA  98635
  • Email: public.records@lyleschools.org
  • Fax: 509-365-2665

After We Receive Your Request

Within five business days of receiving a public record request, the LyleSchool District will:

  1. Provide the record; or
  2. Provide an internet address and link on the district’s web site to the specific records requested; or
  3. Acknowledge that the district has received the request and provide a reasonable estimate of the time the district will require to respond to the request; or
  4. Deny the public record request with a written statement as to why it is being withheld and a citation of the specific exemption (RCW) that applies.

In that event that the request is unclear, the district will contact the requestor within five days to clarify the intent of the request. Once clarified, the district will respond in accordance with the guidelines stated above. If the requestor fails to clarify the request, the district may consider the request closed.

No request will be denied solely on the basis that the request is overbroad.

If the record which is requested for inspection and/or copying contains both information exempted from disclosure and nonexempt information, the district will produce as much of the record as possible, with the exempt portion redacted, and will provide a written explanation for the redaction.

Cost

Public records will be available for inspection and copying during the district’s customary office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. There is no cost to view records.

When printed copies are made, copies will be provided only in black and white and the district may charge $0.15 per page for records copied, except that the first 100 pages supplied to an individual requestor in a school year will not be charged.

Electronic copies will not be charged, except for actual cost of storage device used to deliver copies to the requestor (for example: Audio tapes, video tapes, diskettes, CDs, or DVDs). However, not all documents are stored electronically.

The district may charge actual postage or delivery charges.

The district may require a deposit not to exceed 10 percent of the cost of providing copies for a request.
