The Highly Capable Student

Highly capable students perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments.

How are Highly Capable Students Identified?

Parents, staff, or community members can make a nomination if they feel like a student falls into the Highly Capable category. Staff will then meet and move forward with further identifying the student as Highly Capable through a variety of assessments.

To refer a student for consideration for Gifted Learning services, please complete the district’s referral form. If you cannot access or complete the form online, please request a printed copy from the school office.

How do I know if a child may qualify for the program?

All children have special gifts that we recognize but some children just think differently, approach problems in a different way or really think outside the box more than the rest of their peers.

Some students may have disabilities in some areas but are "gifted" in other areas. Here are some common characteristics of students who may be Highly Capable:

What do I do if I think a child fits these characteristics?
